The International Yacht Primer is a fast drying, conventional one part primer which is suitable for wood, steel, aluminium, zinc & galvanised steel. This grey primer is quick drying and can be applied via a large range of methods to ensure that it is easy to apply and can be done by anyone.

Wood
- Sand smooth with 80-180 grade abrasive paper.
- Sand again using 280 grade abrasive paper.
- Remove sanding dust by brushing, dusting & wiping.
- If wiping with solvent, allow to dry completely.
Oily Wood
- Ensure surface is thoroughly degreased.
- Sand smooth with 80 - 180 grade abrasive paper.
- Sand again using 280 grade abrasive paper.
- Remove sanding dust by brushing, dusting & wiping.
- If wiping with solvent, allow to dry completely.
Steel
- Degrease with solvent or International Super Cleaner.
- Gritblast to Sa 2½ - near white metal surface.
- If gritblasting it not possible, grind the metal surface with 24 - 36 grit abrasive discs to a bright metal surface.
- Use angle grinder on small areas.
- Clean thoroughly & allow to dry.
Aluminium
- Degrease with solvent or International Super Cleaner.
- Sand well using 24 - 120 grade aluminium compatible paper.
- Coarser grades are recommended to achieve optimum adhesion.
- Clean thoroughly & allow to dry.
- Apply the first coat of yacht primer as soon as possible (within 8 hours)
Zinc & Galvanised Steel
- Degrease with solvent or International Super Cleaner.
- Sand well using 60 - 120 grade paper.
- Clean thoroughly & allow to dry.
It is recommended to apply 4 coats of International Yacht Primer at 35 microns DFT (Dry Film Thickness) per coat or 75 microns WFT (Wet Film Thickness) per coat. It is recommended to apply via brush, roller or conventional spray. It is possible to apply via airless spray, however this should only be done by professionals.
