Mooring
Do you know how to tie up your boat with confidence? Are you using the right ropes for the right job? Read our blog Mooring – a Guide to Ropes for top tips and practical suggestions.
In marinas, polyester braided dockline or 3-strand dockline is popular for mooring warps. This has great stretch and durability and is easy to handle and store. Never use pre-stretched or low-stretch ropes – mooring lines need to absorb shock loads from swell and boat wash.
You can help your ropes last longer by using chafe protection and mooring compensators. Anti-chafe devices prevent damage to lines where they rub against deck fittings, the pontoon or hull. Rubber mooring compensators or snubbers help to absorb shock loads, reducing damage to cleats and lines.
At YouBoat Marine, we have a wide range of mooring ropes pre-made with spliced eye loops or on the reel in stock in our shops in Lymington (Nick Cox), Gosport and Swanwick – come in and take a look.
